Technical FAQ

The wrong version of Acrobat Reader starts when I print to view

Question

The wrong version of Acrobat Reader starts when I print to view.

Answer

There is no quick fix solution to this problem and the solutions are not for the faint of heart.

EzyWine uses what ever PDF reader the host operating system has specified as the default reader. Sometimes when multiple versions are installed the OS registry can become corrupt.

A solution to the problem that has worked in most cases (pre Vista) is to delete and re-build the user profile registry settings. The following is a guide to the steps you should follow. This solution assumes you have a MS Windows XP workstation

  1. Logoff workstation as current user.
  2. Login workstation as administrator.
  3. Locate the problem user settings folder.
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>
  4. Locate the file NTUSER.DAT and delete.
This file may not be visible if your MS Explorer is not configured to view hidden or system files.
  5. Logoff workstation as administrator.
  6. Login workstation as problem user.

The login process may take some time, even minutes depending on the size of the user profile.

This process re-builds the users profile registry adding the correct version of Acrobat Reader as the default PDF viewer.
